Image
The anarchic urban adventures of Harry Lampeter. A Steam Age satire. The world has returned to a new age of steam. Harry Lampeter leaves the Merchant Air Service in search of excitement and adventure. A brush with the law leads to his recruitment by MI6. His adventures begin when the Scots invade England and march on London. Meanwhile, Harry’s step-sister, Emma, and her partner, Elsa, make the most of the wartime atmosphere in London. Their erotic song and dance act, managed by Shaky Tom Fletcher – theatrical agent, turf accountant, entrepreneur and drug dealer - goes down a storm. And then the American invasion begins.... Incensed by cross-border raids from England, the Scots decide it's time to march on London. The English army heads north to stop them and MI6 send Harry Lampeter to report on the hostilities. General Malina’s American peacekeepers arrive as the battle for York begins. In between amorous entanglements, Harry discovers the Americans have a hidden agenda: the invasion of Europe. Meanwhile, Harry’s friend, Telford Stephenson, has joined the Scottish Air Force and is enjoying his own adventures. A notable review of my book 'The Steampunk Adventures of Harry Lampeter' with thanks to Johan Coetzee

Image
The Steampunk Adventures of Harry Lampeter   Read Rate this book 1 of 5 stars 2 of 5 stars 3 of 5 stars 4 of 5 stars 5 of 5 stars The Steampunk Adventures of Harry Lampeter by   Roger Ley   (Goodreads Author) Johan Coetzee 's review Jan 30, 2021 It was amazing "Oh behave, baby!" Okay so that line isn't anywhere in the book, but the story had such an Austen Powers vibe that I could not resist. The novel is short, yet it manages to cover a lot of ground. Of necessity it is quite fast paced. I liked the overall flow and rhythm. Every sentence has meaning and every word choice is important. As such, it isn't the kind of book you listen to "while". While doing the dishes is okay but while driving or while cooking might not work. If you've missed a beat because you were focusing on something else, you may get lost. Okay, so about the story. Harry is a self-important, narcissistic, arse. I like him. I probably wouldn't be friends with him in real life
