Harry Lampeter and the Unholy Alliance   A satire at the expense of the establishment, but as Harry Lampeter says, ‘If you can’t take a joke, you shouldn’t have joined.’   Two years after he blew up the Channel Tunnel to foil the Franco-German invasion, Harry Lampeter returns to England, hoping for employment with MI6. The political climate in Europe has changed. The Roman Catholic Church, led by mad Pope Benedict XVII, is attempting to fill the power vacuum in Europe by reviving the Holy Roman Empire, with himself as Emperor. The CIA has other ideas, as do the leaders of the European nations.    Harry discovers that his half-sister, Emma, and her daughter are being held at the Mary Magdalen Hospital for Penitent Women and sets out to release them. Meanwhile, Ms R returns in a new guise, burning with anger and seeking revenge on her former boss, Brigadier Crisp, the head of MI6.   The fourth part in the series - Harry Lampeter and the Return to Steam http...

50th Anniversary of the wreck of the Francis Holmes

FREE to download 22nd to 24th Aug 2025 Fifty years ago this month I was working as a mechanic at an oil terminal on the coast of Libya. As I was walking from one maintenance job to another I looked out to sea and saw that the ship that worked in the bay on which the divers lived, had exploded. There was a huge mushroom cloud above the Francis Holmes. Six men were killed in that explosion and many more badly burned. I still think about the accident to this day. To honour the men who died, most of whom were Maltese, I offer my book 'A Horse in the Morning' free to download for a few days. 'A Horse in the Morning' is the memoir of an engineer, teacher, actor, writer and failed astronaut. The stories are funny, dramatic, sometimes mysterious, and told with quirky British understatement. I'd be grateful for a review if you enjoy the stories. This is a previous review: 'Roger Ley's collection of memoirs is like a series of short stories, all self-contained, as i...

'Nighthawks' a new story published on Tall Tale TV and narrated by Chris Herron

I was inspired to write 'Nighthawks’ by the Rodgers and Hart song ‘Where or When’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbnA78ravpY  and the Edward Hopper painting ‘Nighthawks’. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nighthawks_(Hopper) I've tried to evoke a 1930s feel but set in a futuristic situation. A nice trick if you can pull it off. The story is the last on the list you'll find on this link:  https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLporsubtnxtShv0lct6sHIgvhNNTgCDEw Great thanks to Chris Herron of Tall Tale TV for his excellent narration of the story.
